Hotels and Cafe's hosting a Web Hot Spot, Have No Protection From Prosecution

Do you host a HotSpot? Well if your web access is provided by a market leader, such as BT Openzone, without additional and expensive monitoring services your business could well become liable for prosecution! These are the worrying findings from CommerceCall, the local specialist comms advice company. We asked their MD, Andrew Holford, for more details, the results should bring fear to anyone currently hosting a HotSpot access service.

"I decided that my company, CommerceCall, should sell a HotSpot access service but, with continuous publicity on pedophilia and corporate responsibility, wanted to make certain it would be safe for our customers; I was shocked with what I found. Suppliers such as BT Openzone correctly say they merely provide a Broadband access service, so the security aspect falls on the host. BT also confirmed to us "It's not possible to provide details of who is using which access point" or "of tracking what someone has looked at".

The warning is clear, HotSpot providers simply provide the means of web access, they do not provide any security systems. So if a customer downloads illegal material and you do not wish to be liable, beware, you have now been warned!

To met the obvious demand for a secure and affordable HotSpot service, Holford was happy to tell us that COMMERCECall has now helped design what they believe is the UK's only HotSpot hosting service that incorporates a optional security vetting web portal service that allows sites visited by each individual WiFi enabled devices to be recorded, stored and then accessed for when the men in blue knock on the door
